I was born in Kenya and raised in both London and the United States and I am a single mother of 2. I am a hard worker, determined, persistent and I don’t take no for an answer. I love to read, write, hike, go to museums, art galleries, movies, concerts and plays. I am somewhat of a nerd and I enjoy things like numerology and metaphysics. I am very optimistic and I always look at the glass as half full. I am a lover of people, languages and new places.
My dream is to become a successful actress and model and for my non profit initiative to be successful as well. My initiative is called ZenBirth With Wawira. I aim to help lower the maternal and infant mortality rates around the world by teaching women how to trust their minds and bodies and have a peaceful, pain free experience during childbirth with the help of hypnotherapy. After using this method with my youngest and having a completely pain free waterbirth, the experience changed my life and I’d like to share this knowledge with the world and empower women who fear the pain of childbirth. Childbirth should be a joyful, sacred moment but that’s not the case for many women all over the world and I’m here to help change that.
You never really see women with shaved heads in the media. Black Panther and Nappily Ever After is the first time we are really seeing women with shaved or bald heads on the big screen. There are millions of women that have shaved heads by choice or their hair has fallen out due to cancer or alopecia and I think it’s important for these women to be represented and reminded that they are beautiful too. Also, I’m 5’5” and a dress size 8-10 with curves and I’ve been told so many times that I’m too short, not thin enough or not curvy enough to model. It’s important for women of all sizes to be represented.
